Our firm successfully represented the Claimant in a significant medical negligence action before the District Court of Nicosia, resulting in an award of €1,876,939.84 in compensation.
The case concerned the treatment of a young patient who had suffered a serious intracerebral haemorrhage and whose neurological condition subsequently deteriorated while receiving hospital treatment. The Court found that there had been an unjustified delay in performing the urgent surgical intervention required by the Claimant’s condition and that this delay resulted in permanent brain injury.
In reaching its decision, the Court considered extensive medical evidence, including expert neurosurgical testimony and international medical literature and guidelines.
The Court awarded €1,000,000 in general damages for the Claimant’s injuries, pain and suffering, permanent disability and loss of enjoyment of life, together with substantial additional compensation for past and future financial losses and care requirements.
The total compensation awarded was €1,876,939.84, plus applicable interest and legal costs, making this one of the highest compensation awards made by the Cyprus courts in a personal injury and medical negligence case.
The judgment represents an important outcome in the field of medical negligence and reflects the substantial level of compensation that may be awarded where negligent medical treatment results in catastrophic and permanent injury.
